“My mother taught me to knit and sew when I was a child but it wasn’t until I retired 5 years ago that I had the time and opportunity to try weaving and spinning.
My first loom was a four shaft Schacht table loom on which I wove my first shawl. That shawl has never been worn and might become stiff as a board if I ever wet finished it. At the time I didn’t understand that you need to see light between your threads while weaving (to allow for draw in and fulling). Oops!
My first spinning wheel was a Kromski Fantasia on which I spun and plied my first uneven yarn. Eventually that unique skein made its way into a scarf that I wove on a rigid heddle loom.
I also enjoy band weaving and like trying different techniques. I started with plain weave on an old Lily two sided inkle loom and branched into card weaving on a loom that I made myself.
Some times I think I’m spread too thin but I’m not willing to give up any of my many interests!”
